Frequently Asked Questions

What are nail builder gels and what do they do?

Brush on builder gel polish is a thicker viscosity gel that allows you to create a long-lasting manicure that helps create structure and strength. This gel formula also allows the user to create a short extension to the nail once applied over a tip. This allows clients a little extra touch to their manicure and nail service.

What's the difference between gel polish and builder gel?

Builder Gel is a stronger type of gel polish that can be extended slightly over the free edge using a tip or sculpting form. It has a thicker consistency than regular gel polishes but levels out well to create a smooth foundation layer to apply nail varnish or gel polish.

Do builder gels last longer than regular gel polish?

Builder gel is the perfect solution for clients who want a natural nail but with some extra strength and durability. Builder gel is a lot stronger than regular gel polish and thicker in viscosity, meaning you can also create not only more strength but also a slight extension.

How do you remove builder gels?

Builder Gel can be removed by soaking the nails in acetone for 15 minutes. The excess builder gel can then also be removed with a wooden tool. Repeat the process if needed.

Can you infill builder gels?

Yes. You can absolutely infill builder gels, but be mindful to follow the same prep and application techniques when infiling your nails:

  • Firstly, file your nail to ensure there is no lifting.
  • Prep the nail and remove any non-living tissue.
  • Etch the regrown natural nail plate with a 180 file.
  • Apply dehydrator, primer, then base coat, which requires 1 min in an LED lamp, then build back up with a couple of layers of builder gel and be sure to cure each layer for 60 seconds.

Do you need a base coat with builder gel?

Although some builder gels can be applied directly to the natural nail, we advise that with the Glitterbels builder gels, to always use a base coat. Simply apply one layer of base coat and cure for 60 seconds. Then, apply your builder gel to create your desired nail.

This will help ensure your nails look their best and last longer

Can builder gel be used as a top coat?

This gel is thicker than a top coat. In an emergency, you can use the clear builder gel as a top coat. However, we wouldn’t advise this as it could be prone to more scratching and, due to its thicker viscosity, make the nails look much thicker and give a dull finish compared to traditional gel top coats.
